Phosphorus Risk Assessment
The Illinois Phosphorus Risk Assessment identifies
critical risk factors that may contribute to higher potential for
phosphorus loss from fields. Factors evalualted as high risk should
be addressed with remedial management practices prior to manure
application.
The Minnesota Phosphorus Risk Assessment calculates,
on the basis of several risk factors, a limiting rate basis for
the application of manure to a field. This rate will be either
nitrogen based, phosphorus based or no application will be permitted
at all.
The Ohio Phosphorus Risk Assessment is a phosphorus
index, though its methodology differs from that described by Gilbert
and Lemunyon (1993). It calculates a numeric value for each field
based on various risk factors. This value has a corresponding interpretation
which is described in documents available from the Ohio NRCS.
